Student Volunteer Opportunities

The Canadian Children's Theatre Co. has many volunteer opportunities to suit a variety of students' strengths, interests and schedules. We are looking for responsible, reliable and passionate volunteers to help us throughout our season to produce quality performances for the community. Please see below for brief job descriptions for the variety of opportunities, as well as any pre-requisites for each.
High School students will receive Community Service hours for their time and contribution.

In-Class Assistant

CCTC runs performing arts classes on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons for children and youth aged 3 to 18 in Dance, Music and Theatre. As an in-class assistant, you would assist the teacher with set-up and clean-up of the class as well as to help run games, crafts and rehearsals with the students in preparation for their final show. Classes are either a 9-week session or a 25-week session and volunteers would be expected to help on a weekly basis based on their availability.

A Babysitting and/or First Aid & CPR Course is an asset.

Volunteers may be asked to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check.

Summer Camp Councillor

Throughout the summer, CCTC runs theatre, musical theatre and dance camps for ages 5 and up. As a volunteer summer camp councillor, you will assist campers with crafts and theatre games, as well as in rehearsals and backstage for their end of camp performance. Volunteers are expected to make a minimum of a one-week commitment for weekdays between 8:30am and 4:30pm.

A Babysitting and/or First Aid & CPR Course is an asset.

Volunteers may be asked to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check.

Special Events and Performances

CCTC is always looking for extra helpers for our performances and participants for our seasonal special events. This can include helping as an usher, selling concessions at intermission or assisting backstage during our performances, or participating in a parade or run activities at our special holiday events. This is a great opportunity for volunteers who have little time to volunteer and are looking for single day, weekend or evening shifts throughout the year.

Craft Preparation

A lot of work and time goes into preparing for camps and children's classes. Each class and camp has a variety of crafts such as puppets, painting of head shots and backdrops, the creation of props and so much more. We are always looking for helpers to prepare and organize crafts. This volunteer opportunity is flexible with regards to scheduling and can even be set up to be done at home.

Set, Props and Costumes

Are you crafty? Do you love to paint? Make your own clothes and costumes? Then this is the volunteer job for you! Every year CCTC creates sets, props and costumes for shows such as Anne of Green Gables, Legally Blonde, Peter Pan and many more! This work is generally done on weekends in the Spring and early Summer.
